Memorial Day is a federal holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. The American Legion Post 49 of Wilmington presents a Memorial Day parade yearly. The American Legion is inviting businesses, organizations or individuals to participate in the parade. A patriotic theme is suggested for any float, vehicle, motorcycles or walkers.
The parade begins Monday, May 29, 2023 at 10 am on Locust St. in front of the American Legion and then turns left on South St, then right on Truesdell and proceeds to the Sugar Grove Cemetery where a service is held honoring military personnel who gave their lives in service of our country. Those participating in the parade do not have to stay for the service. The parade will line up on Walnut St. beginning at the intersection of Locust and Walnut Streets, entering Walnut Street from Main Street. Anyone participating in the parade should be lined up no later than 9:30 am. Contact Jim Cook at 937-281-2036 if you have any questions.
