In celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary and the unveiling of our downtown American Flag mural, the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce is inviting businesses, schools, churches, civic groups, organizations, and individuals across Clinton County to participate in We the People: 250 — a powerful visual tribute created by the people who make our community strong.
Between May 1 and May 31, participating groups will create a Human American Flag and submit a photo to be included in the county-wide America 250 showcase. Learn more about how you can participate! Memorial Day is a federal holiday for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. The American Legion Post 49 of Wilmington presents a Memorial Day parade yearly. The American Legion is inviting businesses, organizations or individuals to participate in the parade. A patriotic theme is suggested for any float, vehicle, motorcycles or walkers.
The parade begins Monday, May 29, 2023 at 10 am on Locust St. in front of the American Legion and then turns left on South St, then right on Truesdell and proceeds to the Sugar Grove Cemetery where a service is held honoring military personnel who gave their lives in service of our country. Those participating in the parade do not have to stay for the service. The parade will line up on Walnut St. beginning at the intersection of Locust and Walnut Streets, entering Walnut Street from Main Street. Anyone participating in the parade should be lined up no later than 9:30 am. Contact Jim Cook at 937-281-2036 if you have any questions. To celebrate Earth Day 2023, TimberTech donated $5,000 to Main Street Wilmington. Part of that donation, Main Street Wilmington provided refreshments to volunteers who helped clean up the downtown area on Earth Day. The lion’s share of the donation will support Main Street’s upcoming downtown beautification project, which will include placing new flowerpots and flowers throughout downtown Wilmington.
“Main Street Wilmington largely relies on the generosity of our corporate partners—like TimberTech—to help build a brighter, beautiful downtown,” said Dallas Kratzer, vice president of Main Street Wilmington’s board. “We are excited to spruce up our downtown this spring,” he continued, “and we are even more excited to continue working with TimberTech on future projects. Like all our corporate partners, its commitment to our community means so much.” Main Street Wilmington’s mission is to promote historic preservation and economic development with the goal of maintaining a cultural downtown district that attracts entrepreneurs and retains businesses, serving as a vital hub for housing, shopping, dining, and entertainment.
