CONSTRUCTION? We've been through a lot more.
It's true. The construction is a hassle. It makes shopping a little more difficult (or exciting, depending on how you look at it). But we've been through a lot over the past two years, and we've made it through. Are we going to let a broken sidewalk close our local businesses?
No.
So why do we battle the hassle, annoyance, and frustration of downtown construction? The answer is simple...we support our community. Clinton County is not the kind of place that lets locally owned businesses close their doors just because the sidewalk is broken. We're not going to let a little construction put our local business out of business.
So put on your hiking books, and venture to downtown Wilmington. Our businesses need you, now more than ever!
Beating the construction with business unusual.
We realize the challenges to shopping in downtown Wilmington right now, and it is our goal to make it worth your effort. A number of downtown Buy Local First businesses are offering special construction deals to thank you for your support and your endurance.
For instance, you can stop by Next-to-New during their special construction hours of 5pm - 7pm on Thursday and Friday and get 25% off anything any the store. Or you can avoid the construction completely by shopping on-line at Books 'n' More (www.booksnmore.org). You'll get 15% off your purchase, and they'll deliver your book anywhere in the county. Or call ahead to Shake Those Pounds (937-366-6422), and they'll have your shake ready and waiting to help save you time.
These are just a few examples of what Buy Local First businesses are doing to thank you for your support. For more information on the construction and on what downtown Wilmington businesses are doing, and to get updates on daily specials from all Buy Local First businesses, visit us on FACEBOOK (you don't even have to be a Facebook member to view our page).
Walk a block for local businesses.
How far is a block?Parking on Main Street might be a drag, but you can still walk a block and support our local businesses. It's not as far as you think.
In fact, we walk a block all the time when go to our local shopping centers (we just don't think about it). Check out this overlay of the Wal-Mart shopping center and parking lot on top of downtown Wilmington to get a sense of how far things really are (click here view it full size). Walking a block is easy, it's fun, it's good exercise, and it helps the community.
If you need help finding a place to park, download and print this downtown parking map. Using this you can plan ahead, and find the perfect spot. And remember, this map only shows the parking in the historic downtown district. All you have to do is go one block further into the neighboring residential areas (on Mulberry St., Walnut St., Sugartree St., etc.) and you can find free and UNLIMITED parking any time, any day.
So support the community, and walk a block for local businesses.
